Who are we?

We're an energetic, performing choir, made up of girls aged 7 through 18, of all talent levels, from all across Durham region!

Junior & Senior Ensembles

The Durham Girls’ Choir consists of both Junior (ages 7 - 12) and Senior (ages 12 - 18) ensembles. Both groups focus on age-appropriate vocal techniques and performance-based learning through a variety of musical styles and genres. Girls of all ages and talent levels will enjoy community performances, workshops, group outings and our annual fall camp day. In addition, senior choristers look forward to international travel opportunities.

Both our Junior and Senior choirs rehearse weekly and perform regularly, from September to June.

Celebrating 45 years of choral music

Founded in 1972, our vibrant choral organization has been educating and inspiring young women in Durham region for 45 years. Through practices and performances, community outreach and international touring, our choristers form lifelong friendships, build an appreciation of music and a penchant for serving others. Challenged by a culturally diverse repertoire of choral music, our members develop their musical identity and personal identity in equal measure.

The Durham Girls' Choir is a not-for-profit organization, dedicated to the achievement of excellence in choral music.

Curriculum

Our encouraging and supportive learning environment is designed to provide a fun and rewarding musical experience for each chorister. The choristers learn a variety of music for each of two terms in the performance season. Concepts about music (melody, rhythm, harmony, dynamics, form, style, performance practice) and musical skills (singing, sight reading, etc.) will be instructed and reviewed throughout the season.

Rehearsals & Performances

Weekly rehearsals are held in our regular practice space at Faith United Church (1778 Nash Rd.), in Courtice. We rent this space for rehearsals, though our choir is not church-affiliated. Durham Girls’ Choir is an independent, not-for-profit community choir.

Performances and concerts take place at a variety of venues throughout Durham Region.
