Parent Involvement

The involvement of our parent volunteers is essential for the prosperity of Durham Girls' Choir. Without their support, the choir would not exist.

Parents are encouraged to volunteer as board members, chaperones, and are always welcome to help with planning for concerts and special events.

For more than 50 years, Durham Girl’s Choir has been steered by a consistently changing team of volunteers. This stewardship approach allows us to maintain cost-effective yearly membership fees, ensuring accessibility for as many singers as possible.

Our organization maintains three paid staff members: Choir Director, Director’s Assistant, and Collaborative Accompanist. These roles directly develop and deliver member programming that is relevant and educationally valuable, staffed by professionals with appropriate credentials.

Behind the scenes, our board volunteers handle tasks such as coordinating rental spaces for concerts, selecting uniforms, and providing financial oversight and guidance. This dedicated team shares the responsibility of offering our singers an exceptional choir experience.

Board members commit to a limited term of up to three years, then pass the torch to a new volunteer. This approach keeps us attuned to member needs, ensuring the choir's continuity for years to come.

Volunteering with the choir provides many great opportunities to get involved, and help guide our choristers to success. We hope you will consider contributing your own talents and ideas!
